Virginia Tech
Lane Stadium is one of the toughest places in the country to play. That’s because in Blacksburg, game days are an event — one that goes beyond the actual game itself. Community members join students and alumni for some of the most elaborate tailgating in college football. Visiting teams and fans are greeted with Hokie Respect, Virginia Tech’s culture of first–class student athlete and fan conduct at athletics events. Once inside, fans jump to “Enter Sandman” when the team enters the stadium and jingle their keys on key plays. Ask any one of the 66,233 members of the Hokie Nation in attendance on game day, “What’s a Hokie?” and they will respond, “I am!"

Not only is the Hokies’ team name unique, the official university school colors — Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange — were chosen in 1896 because they made a “unique combination” not worn elsewhere at the time.
