This past weekend, University of Virginia rocked throwback uniforms to win their game against William & Mary.
“These throwback uniforms were modeled off the 1968 team that featured ACC Player of the Year and Athlete of the Year Frank Quayle. That 1968 team finished 7-3, which might not seem noteworthy today, but it came off of 15 straight seasons without a winning season for Virginia. The previous dated back to 1952, when Art Guepe left Virginia for Vanderbilt.
Quayle’s number 24 is one of the six retired numbers for Virginia Football, along with 12 (Shawn Moore), 35 (Bill Dudley), 48 (Joe Palumbo), 73 (Jim Dombrowski) and 97 (Gene Edmonds).”
